From the moment when we wish for something and commit ourselves to something to the moment when the wish has fulfilled a path and a journey. Mannat warps different types of times and spaces; the time of conducting field-work, writing ethnography, and absorbing the Sufi traditions in the space of one’s mind, the narrative time of characters and stories related in Sufi poetry, and the lived time of the Sufi ritual where one is participating in prayers for supplication. The ritual of the Shah jo Raag begins with Sur Kalyan late in the evening and ends with Sur Marvi at the break of dawn.
